Atlantis The Palm
Art and hotels
When you enter the grand lobby of Atlantis The Palm Hotel, you can't help but notice the enormous sculpture by American glass artist Dale Chihuly.
Comprising 3,000 hand-blown pieces assembled into a sculpture nearly 10 meters tall, it was commissioned by the hotel in 2014 and has since become an integral part of the collective imagery of the famous Dubai hotel, whose entire decor is marine-themed, drawing on images of Atlantis, the lost city.
Chihuly is well known for his ambitious architectural installations. His early works, using this material, were on a more intimate scale and consisted of small glass fragments woven into tapestries. His constant evolution and expansion are a testament to the extraordinary creativity that has made him the most important glass sculptor in the world. With a career spanning nearly sixty years, Chihuly has revolutionized the art of glassblowing, pushing the boundaries of the medium and creating some of the most iconic works of contemporary art.
At the historic Leila Heller Gallery in Alserkal Avenue, you have the opportunity to visit a solo exhibition on the artist, an important retrospective of his entire body of work.
