In 1978, an Unidentified Flying Object landed in Sharjah! It is an incredible building constructed in a peripheral area of the city, which until 1972 was one of the headquarters of the Trucial Oman Scouts and the British Air Force.
The structure belongs to the Brutalist Architecture style (a post-war legacy that was very popular in the UK starting from the 1950s). It was originally designed as a café and restaurant, later becoming a supermarket (from 1988 to 1997).
In 2012, it was incorporated into the Sharjah Art Foundation, which oversaw its restoration, designed by one of the most prominent design studios in the Middle East (SpaceContinuum Design Studio). Now, it often hosts temporary exhibitions and features a beautiful café and library. It is the Flying Saucer.
